9mm, 9 NATO, SMG 9mm?

Hi, I have several 9mm pistols. I often use Winchester FMJ bullets just for plinking. I have gotten recently several boxes of the swedish brand Svenska, "balas para subametralladora y pistolas"
( Bullets for Submachine guns and pistols)
I have noticed they're hot... can they work safely in my pistols? A full steel Tanfoglio, CZ75, belgium Hi Power and Beretta 92FS?
What is the difference among standard 9 Luger ammo and NATO 9mm rounds? Thank you.

    In my experience some of the surplus 9mm military ammo is really hot stuff.

    There was a bunch of Hirtenberg 9mm Ball being sold at our local gunshows, awile back that reportedly had a velocity of 1400 FPS with a 124 grain bullet. Those figures are getting pretty close to .357 Mag, if they were correct? Although it can be used in pistols, it really should only be run through submachine guns.

    There is no sense beating up your expensive pistols, ( no matter how cheap it is ) with it, if you can use the Winchester commerical stuff.

    NATO 9MM is hot so that it will cycle in all NATO guns to include SMG's.

    "Marcas Registradas" uses Smith & Wesson on his guns....in spanish...why?

    If they are really putting out 1400 fps with a 124 grain bullet that actually is equivalent to a 357 magnum (a .357 Sig is probably a more "fair" comparison). That would be like 9mm +P+. So maybe if they built 9mms a bit tougher, there would be no need for .357 Sig!

    Now assuming its safe for your gun, whether or not it actually pays depends on how much you pay for the stuff and how much you shoot.

    I think people forget that if you shoot a lot, it doesnt take all that long before the cost of ammo exceeds the cost of your gun. At just four boxes of ammo per week (which is NOT an exceptional ammount for a serious shooter) you're going to burn through 200 boxes per year (or 10,000 rounds).

    If you can save even $1 per box of ammo, in two years you've saved yourself $400. . .that's actually more than the cost of a brand new steel Tanfoglio 9mm, and possibly enough to pick up a used Glock. If you can save more than $1 for the surplus ammo, or you shoot a lot more rounds, the savings will add up even faster.

    So that's 2000 boxes of ammo worth. It might be possible your gun would have cracked anyway after that much use, but no matter.

    If you could save merely $0.50 per box (or only 1 cent per round) using the hot ammo, over that time, you'd have saved $1000. . .which would be MORE than enough to buy a whole new Sig. Plus you'd have enjoyed the "benefit" of the hotter ammo.
