Cetme308 * 1st few rounds will not fire

Hello, I have a Cetme 308, The first few rounds will not fire, I can hear the firing pin engage. after manually ejecting the first few it will then fire without any trouble, It will do this everytime with each newly loaded clip.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Is the any clips for this gun other than the standard 20 rounders?

    Check to make sure your slide is going all the way forward. I had a Cetme that would not lock the bolt to the full forward position with a full magazine, and I would have to eject the first few rounds sometimes. I don't know if the firing pin would engage the primer on a round if the bolt is not all the way forward, but if it did, it might be a BAD[:(] thing to happen. I sold mine and bought a FAL.

    Tajjn is right sell the CETME and get a FAL, you won't be dissappointed. It would be bad if what tajjn describes happens.

    Dont worry!!!
    Its still new & stiff, this will happen for about the first 50-100 rds.
    Honest it will get better...[:D]

    The bolt is not yet mated to the reciever, thus the stiffness,
    it will wear into a mate, where the bolt & carrier will start moving more freely.

    Are you letting the bolt slam forward on it's own force? If not you should. I find that it works best if you lock the bolt open, insert loaded mag, then using your off hand slap the handle down so it flies violently forward. If you try to ride it forward, it won't work.

    Also I would recommed you give the gun a good cleaning if you haven't done so already. Make sure to disassemble and clean those mags.

    I just broke down and bought a cetme a couple weeks ago after toying with them for awhile. It's a fun gun.

    Good advice from everybody.

    Dry fires for the first or first couple of rounds with the Century Arms rebuilt rifle is very common.

    Early Century Arms rebuilds were crap, but the later ones are very good. It seems like they were able to get the bugs worked out after a high number of returns for warranty service hit their wallet.

    As the Century Arms Cetme comes from their factory all the parts especially the recoil spring is very stiff and tight. Cycling the rifle as much as possible seems to be the key to improving first round dry fires. Many Cetme owners have reported as few as 500 to as many as 1000 rounds are required to break the rifle in and loosen up the bolt carrier cycling. Several owners of Cetmes have reported that operating the charging handle without any cartridges in the rifle have loosened their rifle up.

    Mine did the same thing. Mine finally started to work after I fired about 200 rounds and cycled the bolt without ammunition about 500 times. Releasing the charging handle from the bottom and allowing the full force of the recoil spring to charge the rifle is also a good technique to use but this didn't work with my rifle.

    Coating the chamber with a teflon based oil sometimes helping this problem.

    My friend's rifle would not fire reliably with a particular type of 308 ammunition and had many FTF, FTE, and first round dry fires. He changed ammunition and "Viola" his feeding problems went away. My rifle did just fine with the same ammo.
