Installing night sights

First off is this something I can do on a Beretta Elite II. If so can someone give my a clue. The rear site looks self explanatory with the tiny alan screw in the middle, but what about the front sight. Or should a gun shop do it. Thanks for the help. By the way, they are PT night sites.

    I know I'll get beat up on this but I have to say it anyway. Let me know what you hit the next time your shooting in the dark. Most people I talk to carry a pistol for self defense and not very many of them practice regularly. I dont know why your looking to put them on but unless your a police officer I'd put money on it that if you ever had to pull that gun and use it your gonna forget theres even sites on it. Things will happen so quickly that your just going to point and shoot, you'll be looking at the target and not the sites. The average Joe is spending $70 - $100 for sites they will never use. If that gun has white dots on it you'll do just as well. I know a lot of people will disagree but next time any of them are in a firefight in the dark, when its all over, try to remember your sight picture and where you were drawing a bead.

    First of all I think you just posted possibly the most moronic thing I have ever read on this wonderful website. I didn't realize I was going to have to explain myself...I was looking for instruction. But for your sake...I carry a side arm when I hunt. I also enjoy hunting pigs. Have you ever tried to find a pig in your scope at sunset in thick woods at about 25 yards. Next to impossible. So at 25 yards I prefer to shoot the pistol. No i've never pulled a gun on a human in the dark, but a pig...sure. Don't be so simple minded next time before you lash out at anyone who owns night sights.

    Now back to the topic at hand...I am still looking for some help.

    Some people's vision isn't what it used to be. Night sites are MUCH easier to see in any lighting condition.

    Anyway....since the sights are dovetailed, they can be installed fairly easily. But, you need a sight pusher. You can't just hammer them in place. So it may not be worth it considering the added expense of the tool. There are several models available through Brownells.
    I wholeheartedly endorse Trijicon night sights, and no others!

    Even if you "don't use the night sights" it makes it all that more difficult for the prosecutor to make you look reckless when your in court for a justified shoot. Night sights, and a sure-fire may not serve you a practical pourpose when the SHTF but having them accessable makes it appear is if you were placing well aimed shots at an identified target instead of spraying lead and hoping it was a bad guy. And what seperated LE from civilians in the right to buy night sights. LE officers hit their target 25% of the time on average. Thats amazing use of sights. I am not bashing LE, I am a huge supporter. But they are human and subject to the same adrenaline dump that we are. It's not an issue of skill, but a natural fight or flight response. Besides better to have and not need than need and not have, don't you think?

    As I said, I was gonna get beat up on my comments but at least let me say a last word or two. The pistol the nite sites were to be mounted on is a Beretta Elite II. If you can tell me you go pig hunting with that or a similar pistol I'll eat my words. I didnt consider hunting situations. For the most part, hunting ends at sundown for the law abiding in this state, except raccoons I believe. I've never hunted pigs but I understand they are a rather tough critter and from what I've read a 9mm or 40S&W certainly isnt the calibre of choice here. I do believe I said self defense anyway. I know a prosecutor will take any advantage he can in making you look like the bad guy, I dont know what one would say about nite sites. I still stand by my comments that if this gun is for self defense, the average Joe wont be using those site when the rubber meets the road. In my opinion hunting pigs or anything else in low light is certainly a more moronic undertaking. Try telling the prosecutor that it was alright to shoot what turned out to be the neighbors dog because you had night sites even though you couldnt use a regular scope in those conditions. If Drckcbr feels more confident with nite sites so be it. I think his time would be much better spent getting to know that Beretta and how to use it. NUF SAID!!

    If money is a problem i suggest visiting the sprotsmans guide for a 2-part paint on night sight. It does not last naerly as long as tritium night sights but if you have a budget it is something you might consider.

    $0.50 night sights installation:

    Squeeze some glow-in-the-dark paint into the recessed dots in your pistol's three dot sights. Wipe off excess and allow to dry.

    Charge them with a flashlight (or other light) for 2 - 3 seconds and they will glow for 15 minutes, more than long enough to get the job done in total darkness.

    Voila. Easiest sight job you'll ever do.

    If you want the "real McCoy" find yourself either a gunsmith or a sight pusher, because doing it with a mallet and punch is a pain in the behind.

    By the way, if its really totally dark, you won't be able to see your target anyway, and the muzzle flash from your first shot will likely temporarily blind you.

    Night sights are great, and you do not have to be a police officer to have the right to protect yourself in low light situations, and they make it very handy for finding your gun on a night stand or wherever you put it, in no light at all situation

    Now assuming you have machining experience give it a try, make sure you fit the dovetail do not just force it on, they used to make you send it in, was a factory install option only, but dove tail front sights changed that,just make sure you have a micrometer, and several small files

    do not use the paint on a nice gun like that, it will do you no good
