Rifle Shipping / Mailing question

While I have bought several rifles over the internet and recieved them from my transfer dealer, I have no idea how to ship a rifle. My local "Post Net" UPS corner store guy says ANY complete firearm must ship out next or second day air, even if it's going to an FFL holder. That can't be the case, because I'm waiting for a C+R rifle to arrive at my dealer's, that's been slow boating for 5 days now. So, what's the BEST way for a non FFL holder to ship a rifle.

    Take it to the Post Office and ship it Insured Priority Mail.This is Longuns only for non FFLs.It appears you're getting the wrong info from the UPS JERK.[:)]

    It's not fair to call the guy a "UPS jerk". He doesn't work for UPS; he is an independent business person who owns a franchise. He should know that UPS doesn't allow him to accept firearms.

    To ship any firearm by UPS, you have to go to a UPS Customer Service Counter at a UPS facility. The only exception is if you have a business with a regularly scheduled UPS pickup.

    Depending upon weight, package size, distance, & insured value, UPS may be substantially cheaper than USPS. You have to calculate it both ways using each shippers online calculator.

    Neal,I'll call him anything I want !! He's a JERK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!I've been shipping guns here in Maine for 15 yrs.thru 3 different franchises with no problem and I tell them every time what the package contains.[:)]

    ATF; Hope you don't have a claim. Just filed a claim with UPS and they refused to pay becaused it did not ship from a company store.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    You can check gunbroker for ATF rules but it sounds like you are familiar with the process. Long guns do not have to go overnight. You can choose the Post office or UPS or Fedex Ground. If you are not a dealer, you should have a copy of the FFL of the receiving dealer just in case they request to look at it. Hope this helps.

    I already had a claim.I shipped a Win.Mod 88 .284 and they broke the stock.They refused to pay on the grounds that it was not packaged properly.Took them to small claims court.When their man saw the way it was packaged he settled it out of court.He gave the owner $400.00 and let him keep the gun.[^]

    UPS stores can be such a pain in the a$$. One store will ship firearms but only if they ship overnight. The other store won't ship them at all. I have just about given up on these guys.

    We mostly ship USPO. The local post office will gladly ship longarms 4th day ground or priorty mail for much less $$$ than UPS.

    The box must be sturdy with nothing hanging from it and the box must not say 'gun'anywhere on it. For me this means wrap up rhe factory rifle box with brown cardboard and use lots of packing tape.

    Sorry to say that fully insured UPS is cheaper.At least here in Maine it is. [:)]

    Fedex and usps are far eaiser to deal with for me. UPS is anti gun in my opinion. If you are a non dealer you cant legally ship a firearm using UPS unless you lie and say your sending it out for repair. I get no questions from the post office or Fedex. If you disagree with my finding on UPS policy I invite you to read their shipping policies on their stupid website.

    I just shipped a long gun from IL to Mich. through u.p.s. counter.9lbs. for $14.75 sent a copy of my dealers f.f.l in the box.Shipped it in original box with a tight fit box over that.shipped it ground wed. got there sat no problems

    Jerrys guns MT Zion IL uses U.P.S for most all his gun deals. He sent me to UPS TO ship the shotgun. The man at the counter asked declared value, I told him, asked what was in the box I told him shotgun. He weighed the box put on the stickers, I paid him and left
