Sabots

[?]So many out there which one??????????I mean Sabots which one is the best. I just bought a Optima 209 Magnum, so I wanted try it out.So I would like a little push in the right diection, and what powder to use an any other info would be helpfull thankyou for your time

    actually the LNL lock N load sabots by hornady aka speed sabots are extremely accurate (shot 3 and killed 3 deer) these special sabots have a tail on them that fits perfectly through the center of a pyrodex pellet is made for 3 but can be trimmed for 2 its more or less a cartridge for your muzzleloader and the box is as good as a shell box they come in a box of 10 for abouy 7.50 to 9$ and are worth every cent they are jacketed 250 or 300 grain polymer tipped bullets and I am very impressed with them (now if theyd only design a powerbelt bullet with the tail on them to hold pyrodex pellets.) although i would reccomend using pyrodex in any muzzleloader and i personally hate triple seven.

    I've shot the Barnes bullets ever scince they came out, and have never been dissapointed. They shoot extremely well, and are absolutely devastating on deer. I've never lost with one. I shoot 100 grains of Triple Seven loose powder behind them, and can shoot about 1.25" groups all day out of my Remington 700. Stay away from hunting with the pistol bullets that are in sabots. They seem to be too hard and don't expand well. I really can't imagine there being a better bullet than the Barnes, and especially the new style of Barnes sabots. They have a more streamlined ogive and a boattail. My wife and I both used them last year. We each shot once. She killed a big 10 point, and I came in last with an average 6 point.

    I agree with hadjii...Barnes are hard to beat. He is also correct about pistol bullets not expanding. I killed a nice doe last year with a saboted pistol bullet. Went straight through the deer and never expanded at all. Thankfully, the shot took out her heart, or I would have been tracking, and probably would have lost, a nice deer. I also use Triple 7 pellets. Never had a problem with them. Super clean shooting.

    I personally never have gotten consistent accuracy using any sabot in my 209 Encore. I use a 370 gr. Maxiball because it groups so well and is devastating on deer. It does not have the range some sabots may have due to the weight, but I have never killed a deer with my muzzleloader past 100 yds anyway. That said, I want to mention a sabot my buddy used in 2003 on a black bear. I can't remember what it is called, but it was an all lead(soft lead) spitzer bullet (300 gr) with a blue polymer tip. He ordered them from Cabelas. He shot the bear in the neck at less than 20 yds. and when we skinned it, the bullet had expanded to a perfect flat circle about the size of a .50 piece. I was impressed. He shoots a MDM "Buckwacka" with a 1 in 24" twist and they group extremely well in his gun. My Encore has a 1 in 28" twist and for some reason, it is not consistent with sabots.
