Soule sights

I am looking to install a Soule vernier type sight on my Pedersoli Sharps 45/70. I rarely shoot beyond 300 yards and I am unsure if I should get the "short range" or the "mid range" sight.

None of the literature I have been able to find gives the nominal range for these sights, only one review that stated that the "long range" sight would put shots 2 feet high at 200 yards at the sights lowest elevation adjustment.

If it helps, I shoot smokeless handloads with cast bullets between 300 Gn. and 425 Gn. in the area of 1700 - 1500 FPS.

Anyone have experiance with these sights ? Any recommendations appreciated.

    does anyone have any experience with the martini .22 rifles?
    I've seen several for sale and they look like they might be fun to play with.

    I'm working on a rolling block in 45/120. Haven't gotten around to the sights yet but, from what the guys who got me started say, a $500 tang sight is worth the money.

    What range are you shooting?

    600 yds is about all i can squeeze here. i have a mid-range windguage
    that i got from c.sharps and it covers that o.k.
    so far Hoke sights have been the most recommended,though the windage
    is different than a soule type.

    You might wish to examine the P.U. Soule Long Range (old style) sold by Buffalo Arms in Sand Point Idaho, (they're on line) I have MVA on my Sharps and a friend has the P.U. his sight is every bit as good as my MVA but costs 250 dollars, my MVA was 450 dollars.

    Could someone tell me the origin of Soule sights? I collected high grade English and American single shots for 45 years and never saw one until the recent spate of newly made black powder guns came into being.
