whats a lefaucheux pinfire worth (1800's)

can anyone help me find a approx value. my my gunsmith wants to buy it, and told me to name my price. it is in great shape,he said it was made prior or during the civil war. i wouldn't be affraid to shoot it at all.it has a approx. 4" barrel and close to a 45 caliber.any help would be appreciated very much. thank ya'll

  Looking thru My data base...it sounds like a 12mm Pinfire Model 1863, Double Action, Finger Rest Trigger Guard LEFAUCHEUX...In the condition You discribe I'd estimate the value to be about $400.00 to $450.00.........Best.....

  I think the good captkirk is about right in his numbers. There is a single action model in calibre close to .45 that was made beginning around 1860 and some imported into US or CS during the civil war. It has open top, loading gate on the right and an exposed pushrod ejector roughly similar to the Colt layout but without return spring, etc. They were made originally in France and later in Spain and possibly in Belgium. If this one can be ID to be French and could be associated with our Civil War and big bucks. As a kid in the 1930s I had one that was probably a Civil War relic but didn't recognise historical value (nobody did in those days) and traded it off. Later 1960s I bought one of the Spanish ones, almost identical. In the Madrid "rastro" flea market was a dealer that had dozens of them in like-new condition for around $5 apiece. I would have bought several but they had a ban on export of weapons and if customs found them they would have been taken. I stuck the one I bought in my brief case and brought it home. Later sold it for $50 in NY.
