bent shell casings
Whats up guys im new to the sight and wanted to know if somebody could give me some advice. I bought a Browning Bar semi-automatic rifle in 30-06 caliber (lightweight Mobu Dt) this is my first rifle so im kinda clueless when it comes to this stuff. When I fire the rifle the spent shell that ejects from the rifle is about 8 times out of ten bent in the front. Is this normal two guys at two different gun store told me for the Browning its a normal thing and I also had a friend who told me theres probably something wrong with it that it shouldnt be bending the empty shells they should eject perfectley round. So does anybody know if I should worry or not.

Hank, semi-auto's in general tend to be pretty hard on brass. They ding and gouge the brass during the ejection phase, sometimes even taking a little bite out of the rim during extraction. This is normal for them and for the most part does not harm the brass too much. Since you must full length resize brass used in semi-auto's to ensure proper chambering and feeding, most of the dents and dings will be sized out or at least reduced in size. What is not, will be fire formed out during the next firing and be ready for more dings. If the dent is escessive it could bring up pressure issues when reloaded and fired but this would be a rare case and that would be an indication of a problem that needed to be corrected. 0 -
This is due to the ejector/extractor arrangement. The ejector will most always remain under spring pressure which will push the case mouth over toward the ejection port side of the action. The problem is that as this is done immediately as the entire case emerges from the chamber, there is still some travel room until the action cycles far enough rearward for the shell to escape out the ejection port. Dragging that case mouth along the inside of the action while it is under pressure, will most always result in a flat spot in the case mouth where it was pressed against the action rails as it was pulled rearward. Also,..many semi-auto's will ding case bodys by slamming them against the sides of the ejection port as they are being released. This is a common thing.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
