Springfield GI and MilSpec
What are the differences? The website isn't very informative. The only difference I can tell is the MilSpec has slightly better sites and from the pics it has a lowered ejection port. Is that it? Also,does the GI have the same loose tolerances as the original 1911s or have they tightened it up to increase accuracy?

I took both of these in a trade. Both unfired.. I too see very little difference in the two. Like you I found no help on Springfield Armory website. I did notice that the GI is all blue and the milspec has what appears to a stainless barrel and bushing. This may be plated, I did look at it real well. And it dosen't make anysense to me why it is different. Also I sure I saw a milspec at the Bill Goodman show that was all Blue. Are there two versions or what? I hadn't noticed the sites, but I just checked and you are right. Springfield's website needs a little work. It looks to me that they are slapping these things together with what ever parts the happen to have available that day. Probaly a result of "Just In Time" practices. 0 -

I looked at both and went with the Milspec. Still pretty basic but had the better sights. I read after I bought it that the ejection port had been altered to ease rapid fire ejection. I can shoot 4" groups at 15 yds.
I like it, but, at just a shade over $500 bucks I wonder if I shouldn't have bought a less expensive .40 cal. There were a lot of those in the $350-450 range. I use mine as one that I teach pistol shooting with. Only the long run can tell if it will last as well as they say.
