S&W 29-silouette

Can anyone give me some info on the S&W 44 silouettes? How many were made, do the adjustable front sites work well or were they moreless a novalty? I heard some may have come in display cases but not sure. What is a good price on a nice one? Most of ones I've seen in the auction start around $550-$650 and just sit there. Maybe there not very colectable? Thanks

  The 29-3 was made in 1983. I own one and it shoots well. Yes the 4 way front sight is functional. It was made for 4 different ranges of shots. They were made in Blue only and two barrel lengths 8 3 /8 and 10 5/8.
