Ithaha 16 ga.

A friend of mine has a Ithaha 16 ga side by side that he would like some infromation on. The barrel is marked "Smokless Powder Steel, and there is an S over a 16 inside the receiver. The ser# is 35214? and it has two triggers. This is all the info he gave me. Can anyone give him any information on the aprox. value "gun is in very good condition" and the age of the gun.   Look for a grade number on it near the gauge marking. Field grade at 95% can bring $700, grade 4E (E = ejectors) can bring $2000 and grade 7E can bring over $12,000. I'm not sure about the "S"

  Hello idaho cowboy...
  
  It is an "Ithaca" Crass model that was made in the 1898/1899 timeframe. The "S" indicates smokeless powder. The grade is a number stamped on the watertable (same place you found the "S"). If the only marking on the watertable is the "S", then it is a Field grade gun.

  oops... forgot to add... do NOT shoot that gun with ANY modern made 16 gauge ammo. The chambers in that old Crass are too short for modern 16 gauge shells.
