parrott gun question

I am searching for a set of Exact drawing or exact blueprints for a civil war era parrott gun.
I am not haveing much luck. / Thought you guys might know where to get this.
I would like to build one as exact as can be,
Any help would be great.

    ears ago I ordered a set of blue prints
    for the 12 pounder from Dixie Gun Works.
    I don't remember if they had the Parrot.
    The also have cast cannon tubes for sale.

    I don't have the answer you want but I seem to remember that the parrot rifle cannon was indeed rifled, one of the first. The problem being to rifle the bore. That said, the largest problem they had in civil war with these was it was accurate to such a range( beyond range of sight), they had to to devise new ideas of getting a sighting advantage, namely hot air ballons, in order to target them(probably difficult to find a willing sighter in a baloon over the battle field).

    If I can get the plans, & get it built. Somebody on GB will serve as the spotter, It would be to much for some of them to turn down.
    & as long as they were up in the air they would be safe {I Think}

    it might seem a little extreme, but you may be able to find a lot of information in a library with a fair amount of research. i know WVU had lots of primary sources on things like that. maybe check out some patents on the gun. your local library may have some stuff like that. i really don't know if it will work, but it could prove to be what you need to know.

    Dixie has the 20 pounder Parrott rifle book for $12.00, but the only full sized cannon I see there is a carronade. The 300 pound barrel is $1295.00, the complete gun is $3795.00 plus packing and shipping.

    The people who rebuild WW II aircraft get blueprints from the National Archives. The Archives still have stuff from the Civil War, but it's so difficult to find that you have to hire someone who knows how to do the research.

    In a pinch, check with the NPS. I was just in Key West at Ft Zachary Taylor and had the opportunity to climb all over a few of them ( As I recall a 20 and 16 pounder). The guides there were very knowledgeable and helpful. You could always call the fort itself and THOSE guys ought to be able to help!
