I RECIEVED RESEARCH LETTER FROM THE PARKER GUN COLLECTER ASSOC. ON MY GUN. IT WAS ORDERED ON JULY 9 1891 AND SHIPPED TO EC MEACHAM ARMS CO. IN ST.LOUIS, MO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MEACHAM ARMS MIGHT STILL BE IN BUSINESS, IF SO WILL THEY LIKELY HAVE SOME RECORDS. THE SERIAL# IS 65005. DOUBLE BARREL 12 GA. DH HAMMERLESS ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT DALE BOND.

E.C. Meachum went out of business in the 1898/99 timeframe, and I seriously doubt that any of the original records have survived.
In his day, E.C. Meachum was the Wall Mart of St. Louis, and they sold everything needed to completely outfit a wagon train moving west of the Missouri. Unfortunately for him and his business, it suffered greatly after the railroads opened up the west to much faster and more efficient travel. In my research (for a reference book that I am currently writing), I have uncovered records showing that E.C. Meachum was experiencing financial difficulties starting in 1894. He began shipping large numbers of Winchester firearms back to New Haven (the Winchester factory) starting in late 1894, and continued until late 1896. I own a Winchester Model 1885 Single-shot that was originally shipped to E.C. Meachum in October of 1887, and it was eventually returned to Winchester in February of 1895 as a new "unsold" rifle.
