Enders special service 12 gauge

my father-in-law has just acquired this shotgun. I have read alot of the postings concerning the crescent firearms co. however the only numbers the gun has on it are "449" this number is marked in several places on the gun and I ASSUME that this is a model number? any more info would be appreciated!

  Nope... more than likely it is the serial number. I can't really provide any additional information about it, but in my defense, you didn't even tell us it it is a SxS, or a single barrel single-shot.

  Your Father in laws Enders, MIGHT? be better quality then the run of the mill, Crescent "Hardware Gun".
  
  The Shotgun Book, identifies it as being one of the Fulton Models made by the Hunter Arms Co. Although other Enders models were made by Crescent.

  My info says that the Enders Special Service was made by Crescent-Davis for the Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis, Missouri.
  
  BTW.....there's a tendency to think that because Crescent was the largest maker of "Hardware Store/Catalog House" shotguns that they were "bottom-end junk". Not so.
  
  I've seen a lot of Crescents....and while they tend to be plain and utility grade, they're also quite well-made guns.
