value of 400 Jeffreys Nitro Express

I have an old double barreled .400 Jeffreys Nitro Express along with original case, cleaning rod etc and some ammo. Ammo is of two types, one with lead and one that is solid. Rifle has not been shot since early 60's (once or twice was enough for me!!!) What is the value of this rifle and is there a market for this kind of gun? Thanks

  Wll its definately more valuable than a bolt rifle. How much more depends on the market, and more importantly on condition. Saying it has not been shot since the 60's is'nt good enough. We need condition of evrything, metal, wood, accessories, and serial number. Some pictures would also help a great deal.

  Hello yes there is a market and one in good shape is worth quite a bit. This said good closeup pictures or a hand on appraisal is what you need .

  I am not quite sure just what a 400 Jeffery would be worth, you need make, model and condition and if any history associated with it.
  A 404 Jeffery is much more commom, and I believe this would have been a black powder number or very early nitro. If you have a makers name, let me know, and I will try and get some info for you. John

  450/400-3" aka 400 Jeffery; original loads were with Cordite, current loads are with smokeless. Kynoch still markets this cartridge.
  
  The problem is as stated above, there are far too many variations and grades by the custom makers to allow any sort of idea about pricing. In my opinion, you will be far better off taking this to a knowledgable, well established doubles expert to verify what the approximate value would be. There are those of us here though, that would really like to see some photos if that's possible.
