Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine opinion
I'm thinking of getting one of these for my son just to shoot and have fun. The collectibles are way out of my price range, I think. Can get one of these new ones for under 500. Anyone have opinions on quality, reliability, etc? Thank you, as always, experts!

I've heard only good reports on the new carbines, but Kahr has an excellent reputation. Having said that, many of the parts are castings, unlike the forged parts used in USGI carbines. So, there's no way that the Auto Ord guns can hold up as well over the long run. But, at least you're not buying a used gun, & you don't have to worry about buying one that has major problems.
You don't have to get a "collectible" USGI carbine; there are a lot of nice rebuilds, including import marked ones, in the $500-800 range. My preference would be to get one of these, but you need to get some expert advice so that you don't get burned.
