Bushnell or Nikon

Gentlemen,

I am trying to help a buddy decide on what scope to put on his hunting rifle.

I suggested the Nikon 2.5-10x50 Monarch Gold.

He is looking at the Bushnell 2.5-10x50 Elite 4200 30mm

I am voting for the Nikon due to the quality of the glass and side focus feature.

Rifle is in 308 and will be used for some medium range hunting. 200 to 400 yards. What scope do you think is better and why?

    I have both and the Bushnell is a good scope,but I have had the Nikon for several years and it is still a good scope.The Bushnell will probably hold up well,but I know the Nikon will so that is what I would buy.

    Nothing wrong with those.

    Just want to compare these two scopes. If it was my rifle there would be a Leupold, Nikon, or Nightforce on it.

    You cannot go wrong with that Bushnell 4200.

    My first choice would be Burris Signature, Second would be Leupold VX-III, third choice would be Nikon Monarch. The Bushnell would be below that.

    I put a nikon on a 264 win mag. gone within a 100 rounds. sent it back they sent me a new one. gone in less than 50 rounds. sent it back they sent me a new one. traded the new one on a burris and have put burris on everything i own since. i will never own another nikon..........

    I believe the glass is the same in the bushnell and the nikon. I know their binoculars are. There is nothing wrong with bushnell. I have 5 of their scopes, the banner-4 and the elite-1 on my 7mm. I have never had a problem and they work great. I can see through them just fine during all legal shooting hours. You will hear that some will draw the light better in the early morning or in the evening but I can see just fine with the ones I have. I dont feel you need to spend a fortune to get a quality scope, I know some feel you do. One thing to look at is the warranty. I know nikon has a no fault warranty on their binoculars that will cover anything you do to them for 25 years from date of purchase. That was what made me go with nikon this time. I have bushnell binocs also.

    I own several Bushnell scopes and they have all performed flawless. Even on hard kicking magnum rifles. I have never owned a Nikon, but have looked through quite a few and the quality seems to be excellent. I'd say either is a good bet. The Nikon Buckmaster series appears to be a nice scope for the money.

    I own an Elite 4000 2.5x10x40 and it is a great scope. I have it on my 300 Weatherby and have never had a problem. Still I'd point out the the Elite 4000/4200 is a very long scope, and if it has a 50mm bell as well it will be border line huge. If the .308 to be mounted is a trim short action rifle putting such a monster on top of it may be a little on the funny side. I personally avoid 50mm bells for all but my AR15 varmint rifle. As both are good scopes I'd go with the one that is most in proportion to the rifle it is to be mounted on. Remember 50mm doesn't get you any advantage over smaller bells until the light is very dim, then they gather enough more light to help. Unfortunetly many states have laws on the books making hunting under these conditions illegal.
