8MM Mauser Question

I know nothing about this rifle, and im having a hard time finding out any info, maybe you experts can help me out, TIA

under the front scope mount it appears to have the number 1944

under the front scope mount along the left side it has some sorta eagle symbol and the number 4868 Y

just looking for typical info, where it was made? what if anything is it worth

it seems I can't post a picture, post up and I will email you one

    I have a bnz 42 8mm mauser that's been sporterized. The barrel has the nazi eagle with his head turned on it and on the underside is marked 41 Ru. I'm assuming it's a 323 diameter bore. Just wanted to ask if in fact it is a 323 diameter. I don't think they made any 318 bores but I'm no expert. I don't have anything to slug the bore with either. I'm going to learn how to reload and don't want to push a fat bullet through a skinny bore. I'm not looking to reload to JS pressures, just plinking. Thanks in advance. I don't think there is any question that someone on GB can't answer. [:D]

    And as a side note, if I stick with reloading I'll have to pick up a 6.5x55 because I've heard so many good things about it, especially if you roll you own.

    From your abbreviated info, it appears you have a 98 k, German Miltary rifle, these were made and used in the millions during W W II.

    If the scope mount is post W W II commercial?, your rifle has been sporterized, which ruins it value to a collector of military rifles.

    With out QUALITY pictures, there is little other information we can help you with.

    thanks, how did you post a pictue, in the FAQ it says I can't

    I also falied to mention it has the adjustable sights

    and the scope was mounted post WWII as far as I can tell

    Here are some instructions on how to post pictures.


    "First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.

    After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.

    Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture.."

    Because of the extensive sporterization, it has no collector value. Its value is as a hunting rifle, only.

    I sold one like that about a year ago for 150.00 but it had a synthetic stock and no scope overall metal was 85 to 90%.

    When your giving folks access to pictures on your hard drive, certain knowledgable bad people could take advanatage of this, to access all the personal sensitive data concering you and your family that is on the hard drive.
