Stevens 311R in 20ga???

Hello,

i picked up a stevens (savage arms corp) 311R (riot) in 20ga. SXS at a show a coupla weeks ago. its got factory 18 1/4" barrels and its for 2 3/4 & 3 inch. also says 'series J' on the barrel. funny thing is, i cannot find it listed anywhere. all the listings ( bluebook, guntraders, etc.) all specify that this shotgun came in 12ga. ONLY. anybody got any info on this? thanks.> bob

    Thanks for the info. i'll have to try to find that reference book. i've showed this thing around to several dealers at the shows and no one's ever seen one before. was there any info in there as to dates of manufacture or how many were made? could you tell me when that 13th edition came out? thanks again. i really appreciate it.> Bob

    I've got a 31 in 12 guage. It's a rugged and reliable gun with a fast second shot. I never saw one in 20 guage, but if I could find one it might make a good "throw it in the back of the truck" bird gun.

    It is the; 2003 Standard Catalog of Firearms....13th edition by: Ned Schwing. It lists the 311 J/R-hammerless boxlock and the 311 J/R-solid rib hammerless boxlock prices only {both the same}, not production numbers.However it does have a list for date codes for Stevens doubles produced between 1949 and 1968. The code is usually stamped behind the hinge-pin or ahead of the trigger-guard on the bottom of the frame. It will be a small circle with a letter and a number in it. Give me the letter and I'll give you the date...
