Browning superposed and A-5 questions
I am trying to find out as much information as I possibly can about two Browning shotguns I just had given to me by an elderly family member.
I was given a Superposed S/N 28050 S4, made in Belgium 1964. It is in 12 ga with choke markings O=* U=** with 28" VR barrel. The VR is 5/16" wide. The barrel has two sight beads one brass in center and one red at end. It has a gold trigger and extensive engraving. Finish is 95%+. Can anyone assist by adding any further information or comments on this shotgun? I am looking for value? grade? ect?
I was also given an A-5 S/N 361809, Made in Belgium 1952. It has two barrels with matching S/Ns. One barrel is 26" with Vari choke (factory installed). The other is A 29 1/2" VR barrel. VR is 5/16" wide. It has a gold trigger and extensive engraving. Finish is 92-95%. Can anyone assist by adding any further information or comments on this shotgun? I am looking for value? grade? also how do I tell the choke on the VR barrel? ect?

Without seeing the engraving...hard to say which Superposed it is? The choke is Modified and Full. Pictures would be great!<BR>
The Auto-5 is the choke an internal or external system? on the 26". The 29 1/2" the choke will be found by a series of (*) on the barrel I forget which side? Would really need pictures of the "extensive engraving" Not much help but it is a start..........0 -
Sounds like your Superpose is a field model (narrow rib) base model.....not sure what you mean by "extensive engraving"....base models were blued with some light engraving, High Grades had 100% coverage. Pidgeon, Pointer, and Diana grades were silver receivers, Midas was blued, full coverage engraving with gold accents.

Superposed: Based on what I have seen on the GB auction site I can see why the engraving could be deemed light. As a reference see Auction # 30037326. This looks nearly identical to mine for condition and all.
A-5: The variable choke is an external choke that twists from Open/slug/imp/mod/full/xfull/xxful. It has the s/n of the barrel and Browning stamped directly on the choke. The engraving also could be deemed light as it is at about the extent of the above superposed but with a different pattern

Superpose is probably worth $1000-$1600 depending on condition, could be more if you have box and papers. For more information check out the book "The Browning Superpose" by Schwing. 0 -
