Most of the bad things printed about the Swift was written by people who never owned one. It was made for speed. Any cartridge pushing the maximum powder for caliber down it's barrel will erode barrels faster than a lighter load. You could always reduce the load but then why have a Swift? Barrel steel is better now than ever so that's a plus. heat is your worst enemy so don't heat the barrel to where you can't touch it to often. Depending on the contor of the barrel, once accuracy falls off you can have it set back and re-chambered....erosion starts at the throat with the rest of the barrel usually still in fine shape. I have seen numerous Swifts shoot several thousands of rounds and still maitain good accuracy. I built a custom Ruger no. ! in the Swift ackley with a fast gain twist barrel. It's for shooting 75 and 80 gr. bullets at long range. It spits them out in the 3300 to 3500 fps. range. I did load a few 50 and 55 grainrs just for fun. They crossed the screens at WELLLL over 4000 fps but never rached the 100 yd. target, they simply came apart. If you want it...get the swift...they are fun and..well...you can't have to many guns

    if you want speed.... take a 6MM REM and neck it down to .224 shoot it in a 1-8 twist barrel. 60 gr. at 3975-4000 fps. 45-50 gr. dont even consider, will not get to the target. but fun.... when people talk about their
    22-250 and 220 swift with their 50-55 gr. bullets . i just smile and nod

    The 6mm necked to .224 is a good one too! My only problem with it is it's a wildcat still, and you have to make your brass, but that is the joy of it when going for speed.
    The gunsmith friend of my friend did this also, except he used .257+p brass. Same case only necked to .257 instead of .243. In case anybody wonders...and I've checked it again and again, .257+p has 15 grains more brass in the base than 6mm, .257Rob., 7X57Mau. brass. The +P is not simply hotter loaded. It is worth it to use it. I use it in my .257 and do get hotter loads. Good luck with your choice, .220 or .224-6mm.
