.250 Savage value? ? ?

My dad's old hunting rifle, a .250-400 Savage, may be a -300, with serial number #11043. I'm trying to get a rough idea of dollar value...just for yits and giggles ...I'd really be grateful if anyone that has a way of finding out its approximate value could let me know. Thanks. roy in lyons or.

    Would be a 250-3000 caliber or .250 Savage in laymans terms . Im not sure when the .250 caliber was introduced though , Im thinking not until 1914 but not positive. Some of the Savage experts will chime in shortly Im sure.

    Condition, condition , condition would determine its value. Gun was made in 1911. Is it completely original, no holes drilled for scope or sights, cracks in forend, has stock been cut or refinished, original butt plate ? If it is completely original and bluing is good your taling 600-800 dollars in some areas .

    That is .250-3000, now called .250 Savage. That is the caliber, but you need to help us out with model number of the rifle and a clear statement of the condition. From the serial number it appears it is a Model 1895/1899/99 built in 1900, which is not consistent with the introduction date of the caliber, so it must be another model.

    Thanks for the help.....the model of the .250-3000 Savage I have is the "SUPER SPORTER". On the right side of the barrel near the front are the words "HI-PRESSURE STEEL-PROOF TESTED" The bluing condition is very good, with only a very small amount of easily removed light corrosion existing from the front end of the stock to the end of the barrel. The stock looks like cherry wood, and has checkering on the handle. My father may have done the checkering...the butt plate is original, it has the circled "sVg" logo on the south end of the plate. The bolt, inside barrel, magazine areas are clean and completley free of any corrosion or discoloration. The bolt action is tight, smooth and comfortable. Thanks so much!

    If? yours is the bolt-action that originally came from Savage with a Lyman Receiver Sight, its identified in my references as the Model 45 Super Sporter. These series of Savage bolt-actions centerfires date between the First & Second World Wars and are little known/appreciated other then to collectors of Savage rifles.

    Sight-unseen, per your description of "light corrosion" on the barrel, it appears to be a shooter rather then a collectors rifle. My WAG is that the price range would fall between $150 & $250.

    rufe-snow has it pretty well covered.
    The models 40 and 45 were made in 4 calibers- 250-3000, 30-30, 300Sav., and 30-06 and the 250-3000 seems to be the rarest and most sought-after.
    It would be worth about 2x the price as the others.
