1860 colt 44 revolver

I am wondering what this gun is worth. It has a scene etched into the cylinder of a naval battle, says "engaged 16 May 1843" -- beautiful etching in excellent shape. It has the solid brass parts typical of that year-- I was told it was specifically a union army pistol. It is mostly in excellent shape with some very light pitting on the little setting rod but not elsewhere. There are some wear marks on the walnut butt. I am interested in selling it but want to be sure of what it is first-- original or older reproduction.

    Hello we will need the serial number. Colt made some second gen. black powder pistols pictures will also help.

    Here is the serial number for the 1860 blackpowder revolver:
    s/n 22766 It is in two places that are visible without taking the gun apart: on the barrel assembly (underneath) and right next to that on the stock assembly. Will try to get some pictures to you but am new to this internet stuff.

    Hello if this is a COLT and if it does have only a 5 digit serial This pistol should have a brass trigger guard but a steel rear grip frame . This pistol needs to have an expert to do a hands on appraisal . there were many repros made and very fey guns 140 years old are in the condition you say yours is in so if it is a true ist gen colt 1860 army it is worth quite a bit of money.

    Okay--is the rear grip frame the piece of metal sandwiched between the two wooden sides of the grip? If so, then this one is solid brass--in fact, it is a solid piece of brass that the trigger guard is part of. So- repro or remanufactured? If so--is it worth a few hundred bucks?

    Some general numbers. If it is old, original Colt it could be worth $2-4000; if it is a recent Colt reproduction by Colt worth $300, more or less; if it's a commercial repro Italian, Spanish, Belgian maybe $150. As others have said, more & better info is needed to get useful info here and you really need the services of a competent appraiser if it is an authentic old original piece.
