222-223-22/250-220swift?

i want to shoot some prairie dogs. will take 2 guns. which 2?
i have 222-223-22/250-220 swift. all guns are same make/model.

will load 40 or 50 gr nos bts. but not both. please help.

    Hello zb...

    First, you are missing two of the most important of the high-power 22 caliber centerfire cartridges ever made... the 22 Hornet, and the 222 Remington Magnum. The Hornet is a fantastic cartridge for the lighter bullet weights (35 - 45 grains), and the 222 Rem Mag can handle 45 grains and up.

    Now, with that out of the way, of the rifles you have, there is no need to take two of them with you for what you are shooting. The 22-250 when properly loaded is a "do-it-all" cartridge. If you are intent on taking two rifles, then load your 222 with the 40 grain bullets, and the 22-250 with the 50 grain bullets. The 220 Swift is just for those people who like to show off, and burn lots of powder.

    Lots of overlap in that list, so lets try the basic principal of which of these do you shoot the best? Unless you want to work in more experience with one or another, take the two that work the best for you.

    I would take the two that you most want. I like the .222 for it's accuracy which is really good out to 250-300 yds., and the .220 for it's long range. Although the .22/250 will push velocities out nearly as fast as the Swift. I personally would stick with the 50 gr. Nos Bal tips too. No matter what you shoot if you start reaching out a ways 40's will drift more in the wind.

    If the dog town is big and shooting will be often,..then the only 2 choices are the 222 and 223 to keep barrel heat down.

    Now, if longer range is your deal, then the only 2 choices are the 22-250 and 220 swift simply for the speed and range capability. And,..although the 22-250 can be pushed to the 220swift (almost) level,..it will be running at probably almost 7000-9000 PSI higher than the swift. The swift is the king of the hill and todays cleaner powders and better barrel steel make it a stellar performer. I have a hard time getting mine to go MORE THAN .5moa even with the loads it dislikes.

    The higher speed of the 250 and swift make them better suited to punch through the wind and get a bit further before trajectory starts to fall off incrementaly. The swift offers another 100yds real world capability over the 22-250. The speed is a welcome addition when the target gets to be further away, no matter what caliber you are using or what you are shooting at.

    assuming they are all 1:14 twist,..then the 50-53gr pills will be the ticket.

    that's my story,.....

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Use your Swift and you can show off and burn lots of powder too !
    While your at it you may as well shoot farther than the others can too.

    But if your going to be shooting a lot do what JustC said.

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Well guys.

    i have to take the 223 and the swift. the 223 has a 3.5-10 leup and
    the SWIFT wears a 8.5-25 leup. have shot the 223 more than the other
    3 guns put together many times. w 40gr pills i hope to be able to see
    THE REDMIST. nos says i can get 3800 w/223 and almost 4300 w/swift.
    all 4 guns are very acc. dont shoot 222 much because it wears a fixed
    24x. the 22/250 has a 6.5-20. wont talk about group size,because i
    believe thats more a product of the shooter than the gun. thanks
    again for the advice guys.
