glock frame rail failures?
I had heard something about the slide rails on certain glock models failing? anyone know where I can find information, and determine if mine is affected? thanks...

It's been a while since there was problems with certain Glocks having those failures.
Go to www.glocktalk.com they had many, many threads adressing this problem. They gave serial number ranges, dates of production, what Glock was doing to replace the frames etc.
As this was awhile back your probably going to have to use the search function to dig up the relevant posts, or there is always the chance they set up a FAQ section for this problem. As I remember back then, some of those guys were throwing hissy fits, "THINKING" there pistols were defective, the way they carried on, you would have thought somebody had stold their Barbies. As it turned out relatively few pistols were affected, had somthing to do with a bad batch of plastic that got through the quality control process.

You would almost think the guys at Hi-Point or Bryco were running the show over at Glock[B)]. Maybe they should change over to zinc[:p]. Oh well I'm sure its only a minor failure when your frame fails[xx(].

In the early 90's (92-93 I think) Glock did a recall on frame rails. They had a few failures and they offered a retrofit for a period. I had a 17 that I took to my local dealer who in turn turned it over to a local Glock armorer who put the new rails in and I had it back in two days. I have over 15,000 rounds through this 17 and have never had a failure. Most companies have a few problems with their line in the beginning that is the reality. I should have the serial number range in my files, if I can find it I will post it. I was told at the time my 17 was fixed that the newer rails were bright and shiney and the older ones were kind of a dull matte. Hope this helps. Brian. 0 -

Don't believe your Glock problem is the same one the first poster was referring to. The more recent rail problems date to the 2001 time frame and concern the deterioration of the plastic the frame rails are molded from.0 -

How the heck do you put new rails into a polymer frame that is already manufacturered and formed around the existing rails?
Man, a polymer frame, in MHO, is so cheap and easy to produce one machinery is in place, I would think it would be more cost effective to must make a new complete frame.
Especially since I assume the rail/frame strength comes from molding the rails into the frame at or near to the time of orginal frame production.
But again, what do I know? I try to avoid polymer or aluminum alloy frames if at all possible.
