Colt cartridges

I have an unopened box of Colt cartridges for which I need information. The box measures 2 3/8" long X 1 3/8" high X 1/2" deep. The outer covering appears to be waxed paper and it is marked as follows: " 6 Combustible Envelope CARTRIDGES, made of HAZARD'S powder expressly for COL.COLT'S PATENT REVOLVING POCKET PISTOL. address Colt's Cartridge Works Hartford, Conn. U.S.America". It has a wire running across the top which was probably used to open the box. The wire is loose at one end, but otherwise condition is 100%. Can anyone tell me the approximate value of this box or direct me to a cartridge
collectors site that may have some info? Many thanks.

    Regarding your cartridges, please be advised that if they are authenic, they have a really good value.

    The only ones that I ever owned were sold for several hundred dollars each/box.

    That having been said, there are also some really great re-productions floating around.

    I think that you can expect a post from our resident cartridge expert, Iconoclast.

    Pictures would be a great help is possible.

    Hope they are the real thing.

    I would say that this is definitely the real thing. They were given to me by an old guy back in the mid '60s. He said that he had a bunch of these boxes but he threw most of them away. He knew that I had an 1849 Colt pocket model and he thought it would be a nice accessory to go along with the gun. Tailgunner, thanks for the info on the cartridge collectors forum. I have posted an inquiry there.

    Doug, you have a nice little gem there and as my professional colleague noted, if original & in the sort of nice condition you described, well into three numbers on value. Some of the real experts on early material at the IAA site will likely give you a more precise number - but photos are definitely in order.

    BTW, for those who don't know it - 11thcanopy is a *very* knowledgeable ammo guy.

    The photo is more for your use than mine. Box condition / authenticity are key to the value. The experts on the IAA site will need this to give you a reasonably accurate estimate.
