Colt AR15 20 Round Mags

I just got a group of Colt 20 rounders from Iraq. Some are marked .223, some are marked 5.56. What is the signifcance of the different markings and eras for each.
Also some of the bodies have I U intertwined on the forward edge. What is this?

  I believe the changeover from .223 to 5.56 markings came around '70.

  With our phasing out the 20 rounders as general issue so long ago, do you have any idea what organization was actually using these?
