glock question from newby

Hello everyone. Ive enjoyed this forum for a long time and finally decieded to register. Has anyone got any advice on +p+ ammo in glocks? Will the guns take much abuse? Im buying a g-17 tommorow and I dont know what to feed it. Thanks.

    Hotter than standard pressure loads. Usually reserved for leo only but Ive bought .38 +P+ at gun shows in Tulsa.

    If you want to shoot hot loads in a Glock, buy a standard barrel. Dont even attempt it without doing so. There is no support for the head in a Glock and you will end up with an expensive paper weight and possibly bodily harm.

    The Glock 17 will easily handle factory +P loadings as well as +P+, but keep in mind that firng large numbers of +P+ rounds will cause accelerated wear on the pistol. Glocks as a rule don't like reloads and dislike lead bullets. It has always been my opinion that if a civilian shooter honestly feels the need to fire +P+ ammo in 9mm then he/she should consider stepping up to a larger caliber such as .40S&W. A Glock will take a heap of abuse, far more than any non military user is ever likely to dish out.

    I'm not planning on using them too much, just for defense at home. I'll practice with a sane load, just dont want it to lay down on me just when I need it most. It'll be replacing my good old model 19 w/125 grain jhp. I feel like Im stepping down in power with a 9mm, and I want the best load itll handle safely. Any particular makers/bullet weight? What do cops carry in them? Thanks again.

    For home defense, I prefer a shotgun. For a 9mm in p+p I carry Hydra shocks 124 grain. Usually around $20-25 for fifty rounds. I have 6 boxes and just fire them a few times to make sure the old 19 still likes them. Your pistol is rated for them but as stated before will definitely accelerate wear on your pistol. I strongly recommend firing your pistol often to get used to it and to home your skills.. I usually shoot CCI Blazers for practice, cheap to shoot and overall a very good round. Good luck. Dandy

    My cuz in the FBI carries Speer Gold Dot, in his glock. You may want to look into that.
