S&W 4046 PISTOL
I have been wanting a pistol in the .40S&W cal. and my buddy has a S&W 4046 double action for sale that I'm thinking about buying. So is this pistol good and reliable?

People seem to really like or really hate Smith's double action only guns. I had a 4046 issued to me in '92. Hated it. Never liked the trigger pull on it. Accuracy was so-so. The gun was a boat anchor being all stainless steel. Smith re-called them twice during the nine years I carried it, so it was rebuilt a few times with new parts. I have to admit though that I bought it when we switched to Glocks, only because it has my agency's name on it and it was new when issued to me. It stays in the safe, I never shoot it. If I were in the market for a .40, I'd go Glock 23 or Walther P99.

I have owned and regularly shoot many various models of 40 S&W pistols. Everything from Kimber (on the high end) to HiPoint (on the low). Believe it or not I would recommend the Taurus 100 or 101 over all but the highest of the high end firearms. My Taurus PT101SS will out shoot my 3 Glocks, HiPoint, S&W, Ruger, and Baretta 96's anyday of the week. For the price of 350-400$ you cant go wrong with the PT101. 0 -
I've had a 4046 since late 90's and like it find. I never like the weight of an all steel gun, but I like the fact that the frame and slide is all stainless steel instead of a tupperware frame or that potentially brittle aluminum alloy.
It is great for defense as there is absolutely no levers or buttons to push if you want to shot it. It is just like a revolver in that regard in that all you do is pick the gun up and pull the trigger. It has kinda like a light revolver double action trigger pull. Not ever going to be a target gun but at 20 feet you can always hit what you aim at.
And the trigger pull is actually not that bad. I was at the range doing my yearly qualifying with it and had a deputy sheriff instructor standing right next to me. Not to brag but he was impressed enough to stop me in the middle of the drill, shake my hand and said "sir, you are an excellent shot". This is told here not to brag, but to tell you that even a double action only S&W can be shot well if you learn the gun.

I have a 1006 and a 4006, had a 5906. All have been excellent guns, the 1006 rivaling my Colt Mk IV for accuracy and far exceeding in reliability. I don't much like the XXX3 series (why buy alloy when you can have S.S.) I have a soft spot for 2nd and 3rd. gen S&W auto's. Still looking for the elusive LNIB 4506.
It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.0
