S&W Mod.41

Checking on this for a friend. He has a model 41 that came from the factory with 2 12 round clips instead of 10 rounders. He is the original owner and got it in 1993. He heard Rem. only made those clips in 93. Is this correct? I can't find any info on this. Also,does Rem. have a service to get this gun lettered? He has been wanting to sell or trade this pistol and has had people shy away because they think the clips have been replaced with lesser aftermarket ones. Any info will be appreciated!

Sorry for the confusion. I do mean S&W. It's been a long day[:p]

And yes the clips are stamped S&W.

    You mention Rem in you post. Did you mean Smith & Wesson?


    Smith introduced a 12 round mag for the model 41 in 1992 so they are likely factory. They should be stamped S&W.

    I don't know if or when these mags were included with the M41 from the factory.

    But, I am certain that these mags were offered as S&W factory parts, as I have one still in the S&W bubble pack. The 12 rounders have orange plastic followers, as opposed to the blue steel followers in the 10 rounders. There should be no confusing them with generic mags, as they have the stylized S&W logo stamped on the floor plate. Unfortunately, I have never seen any documentation on the change to the factory issue guns, if, in fact, it was made.

    Asked him about it and he said he recieved the gun from the factory as I stated. In the box with 2 factory 12 round clips.

    YES S&W MODEL 41 CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH TWO 12 SHOT MAGAZINES. WE SOLD SEVERAL OF THEM IN THE EARLY 90`S. VGUN1

    I have two 41's from the early-mid 90's, the 5" bull and 7.5" thin barrels. Both came with a pair of 12 rd. mags and somewhere I picked up 3 or 4 more-they are as stated above: S&W letters on the floorplate, circle logo and '12' on the rt. side, orange followers.

    I didn't think the 41 was ever considered a field gun-wonderfully accurate but heavy and very fussy about ammo and cleanliness.

    The mags can't be hen's teeth-I'm sure Smith continued to make them into the 2000's for export. Nonetheless the gun has legitimate blue book value. Unlike Mk. II's, you see very few 41's on the auction and sale sites. I won't part with mine.

    There was a lightweight "field" barrel available at some point. The 41 was too expensive for most people to use it as a plinker, so most 41's you see have the 5" bull barrel or the 7" barrel. I thought about buying a field barrel, but you can get a whole nother pistol for what people want for the lightweight barrels.
