llama as good as Colt???

Please don't laugh me down, just had to get your attention... now.. the Llama 9mm Government model <as per 1911 .45> Is it a good, dependable weapon for home defence? More than a few folk have said this is a major waste of good money going for a very bad gun. Some say the early produtions worse sorry, but not the new. Any one want to comment from 1st hand knowledge. The local pawn shop is offering a nice 85-90% spicemen for $110.00 + tax. To get or not?? Thanks ,Steve

    If'n my life were depending on it, I wouldn't sleep well. For plinking, go for it. For crappy situations on a tight budget, get a Makarov. The 9x18 round isn't as powerful as the 9mm Para, but it isn't a slouch and the gun is well made and 110% reliable

    I agree totally with Kingjoey. If the cash flow is low, buy a Makarov.
    It will get the job done, and it is very dependable.

    I am Not putting my Life in the balance of a Lama...

    Duckhunter also has a Fantastic idea. A bag of rocks is quite nice,
    and remarkablity dependable.

    Or, you can smash your attacker in the face with a Lemon Morange pie, drop his pants to his feet, and spank his ass faternity style with a
    wooden paddle. Or, you know whatever works for you.

    Man there must not be a single partisant Llama ally in the house!! Could it be that something with this much heavy-good grade metal is really TTT-rash?? Imean it's not a Jennings .22 or a RG or a really bad Raven boat anchor. These semi- auto's really have fine lines and fit well. I shot one over the weekend and it was flawless...I didn't say accurete now. Anyone have a good testimony about these new models?

    My experience with Llama has been about 50/50. Of the several I've owned half have been ok the other half have been trash. Of the ones I've had that were ok about half of them required minor work out of the box to make them feed and function reliably.

    Two handguns that have been bought, against advise, by several friends and aquaintenances are the Llama 45 and the Ruger 9mm, none were kept longer then a years and none of the owners had anything good to say about either. Several other folks I know have the Makarov in both 380 and the 9mmshort, none of them are or will be up for sale or trade.

    Lllamas have a very spotty repuation for quality and reliability, at least in my own experience. Most of the pistols from the 1960s seemed to work pretty well and had a nice fit and finish while the late production pistols all seemed to be poor perfomers and had a number of reliability issues, most of which were difficult to correct without the services of a gun smith. Llama is long gone and you are out on your own if somethig breaks or goes wrong with the pistol...no warranty. I see no point in taking any chances on a self defence pistol and going with a model which has even a questionable reputation for quality is foolish. My own life is worth a hell of a lot more than $110 + tax and putting my life into the hands of an 85-90% pistol of questionable quality is not high on my list of priorities!

    Home defense... I have always thought and recommended that unless you are going to take the time and expence to become proficient with a semi-auto... you are much better of to stick with a revolver. When the bad dude comes in, you must assume that he has his weapon cocked and loaded and ready to go. And while you are trying to find the d__n safety in the dark he can make you look like a old used dartboard.

    At that price buy it look it over try it out and see if it works reliably. If it doesn't you can sell it for more than that at almost any gun show.
