compact Colt dilema, pls help

Somebody help me please. I'm building a small 1911 for concealed carry, I've already chopped the grip frame to Detonics length. I have everything to build it including a Colt Defender Barrel, but no slide. Any Defender Owner, could you please measure your slides overall length, and the length from the rear of the slide to the recoil spring plug shroud, and reply with that info? Or do the same with a Colt Commander? I can't find a Defender slide, even from Colt. I'm gonna have to make one. This is rapidly driving me toward a brain anuerism. Help me please.

    Boy Trooper, you're going about this the hard way, aren't you? You can't be saving money with this project, so I hope you're having fun! I looked at this post the last time around, but wasn't really familiar with the Defender. And I'm a Colt guy [:I]! Anyway, this is an Officer's ACP with an even shorter barrel?
    Here are the dimensions from an Officer's slide from the firing pin stop surface:
    5.90 OAL 5.20 to the rear of the plug cover
    Here are the same dimensions from a Commander:
    6.45 OAL 5.20 to the rear of the plug cover

    Trooper, i did this similar project about a year ago. I used the Essex short (Detonic Size) frame and A Para Ordnance P10 (3" barrel) upper. I believe your Defender barrel would drop right into a P10 slide. With the defender barrel you would not have to ramp the frame like i did. Either the P10 or the Defender recoil system would work with this set up. I also did a 38super on a Caspian (Detonics Size) frame, but i went with the Officer's size upper on it. I like the Caspian frame better because of the functional full size grip safety on it. They shorten the mainspring housing. Good luck with your project.     Yes, the hard way. It started just for something fun to do. I no longer drink, gamble, take drugs, or chase loose women, and you've gotta do something with all that spare time. Now this has become a Bleep Bleep Bleep'n crusade! I cannot thank you enough for the measurements! Now if only I knew the Defender dimensions! I'm sure that counting labor, parts, and time spent looking for stuff, I could have bought two Defenders by now, but it has been fun. And I probably won't see one just like it at Wally World.
