I cannot find production numbers, but according to John Lacey's book on 700's,the varmit special was chambered in 6mm every year from 1967 to 1987 with the exception of 1985.The 7mm-08 was chambered in varmit special every year from 1980 to 1986.---found some production numbers for VS in 6mm. 1967--1405 68-1235 69-1400 70-817 71--642 72-562.Can't find production numbers for the 7mm-08.Hope this is of some help to you OSS

thank you for the post, i am really getting frustrated trying to find the 7mm-08. i hate to see what kind of price tag the thing will have on it.

I have seen a varmit special chambered in 7mm-08 so i know they do exist.I have a feeling they were not a big seller, and production numbers were probably quite low.

do you know who has it or how i can contact them? i think total production was under 3000 of them, someone told me that the production of the 6mm was around 3000, but i think they were mistaking it for the 7mm-08. i don't know what the problem was, they continue to make them in their varmint synthetics.

I am trying to remember where and when i saw the 7mm-08.I know it was not that long ago,but i can't remember where.I will do some checking in my area (Maine) and try to locate it for you.

if they don't want to get rid of it, get a picture of it so i can see that this gun actually exists

I have a feeling,if i can locate it,you could probably buy it right.Unless, like you,you are a collector, not a gun that everybody would want.I know it was at a gun shop, and i am sure they would love to sell it if they haven't allready.Give me a few days,if it is still out there i will find it.There are about a dozen gunshops across the State that i check occasionally. It had to be one of them. P.S. I see you already have the 25-06.I would think that would be a tough one to find.

yeah, i paid $860 for the thing. i didn't think i would find it, but it popped up on gunbroker one day and i bid $800 to make sure i got it next thing i know someone had outbid me, but i guess if you want something you've got to pay for it.

    Hello fellows,

Out of simple curiousity, do either of you know how many were made in 222 Rem Mag? I ordered mine in 1977.

evidently not many, they don't show up in blue book or trader's guide.

Hmmm... I wonder what kind of premium it would bring. I also own (originally it was my fathers) Model 722 chambered in 222 Rem Mag. Both rifles will shoot in the same hole at 100 yards if I do my part[^].
