Browning A-5
I have a Belgium Browning A-5 with serial number 7xxx. According to the Browning site this gun was part of the ORIGINAL 10,000 ordered by Browning in 1903. I can believe it. I have never seen one even close to it. Unfortunately time and various owners have not been good to the old girl. The wood is NOT original and some of the internal parts are missing. I have 30 yrs experience restoring doubles but "0" with the Autos. Where can I find early era parts for this piece of history? Failing in that where can I get the spec. drawings for the parts so I can make them in my shop. Any ideas will help. Even pictures of the prewar, World War I models would help. The upper and lower tang appear to have been on a straight grip stock!! I'll make the stock if I can see what one looks like. Some of you collectors PLEASE HELP me.

both the brass ring and the ring that hold it together have slots...do they need to line up? and does this apply to the Rem Mod 11 as well? 0 -
The brass ring is the friction piece and the ring that goes around it is the friction spring. I don't line the slots up. 0 -

The ring system on the 2 3/4' and the 3" guns are different there are more pieces for the 3" gun and depending on the load the ring set up would differ. Your question is still confusing? what do you mean by std and light weight barrels? and what are you asking is compatible. There are the older short chambered barrels, the light 12 2 3/4" barrels and the 3" barrels. 0 -

Thanks for the effort. I have four A-5's, I'm pretty familiar with them, I think. I am aware of the different/similar setups for my 3"mag, my sweet sixteen, my 'ancient' twenty gauge, as well as my light twelve My friend's light twelve doesn't eject shells properly. I dated the serial numbers, the gun is a few years newer, the barrel seems to be from the era before the light twelve. He has a after market forearm that seems to let the action go too far forward(gunsmith said it was the wrong forearm), the gun came with a 3" mag slug barrel and a solid brass "spacer" that says '3" mag' The seller, moved to Mexico(unavailable), he "said" he hunted with it all the time. --Doesn't make much sense-- Trying to reason it out--The guide ring on the barrel has three holes in it, i don't think any of mine have that... so, i was wondering; Once the light twelve came out, would the older (does what you call short chambered= what i've been calling standard weight barrels?) barrels fit the light twelve? Hope it makes sense. I am calling Browning, though. Regards, B0
