AK-47 Optics
Greetings, Gentlemen.
I am the new owner of an Arsenal SAM-7S, a beautiful AK-47 with a milled receiver. I was interested in purchasing some quality optics---either a red dot or a low-power scope---and wanted to hear any thoughts before making the buy.
I've seen the surplus Russian PSOP scopes along with others. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just one man's opinion, but I think the AK is best served with open sights.

Since you obviously have an eye for quality, you'll want to do your fine selection justice by mounting on your side rail the most advanced and highest quality optics mount available. The KV-04S, from K-Var fills the bill. Add a quality red dot scope, (here, $40 to $70 will get you a plenty good one) and you have all the optics you need for an AK. One addition I have really enjoyed on my Arsenal AK is an inexpensive laser available from Sportsman's Guide. Mount it on the barrel just ahead of the forearm, sight it in, and all you have to do at night is put it on the target and pull the trigger, from the hip, the shoulder, the knee, behind your back or between the legs, etc. etc. etc....if you're holding the piece steady, when you squeeze off a round, it will hit the laser spot within range. Also, go to K-Var for your mags; they have a Bulgarian composite/steel 30 round waffle mag, brand new for $12.00! They fit perfectly and function flawlessly.

The KV-04S mount slides readily off the rail with the flip of a lever, but when adjusted correctly, is tight and strong. It returns to zero upon remounting so you can feel free to use the iron sights anytime without being intimidated by resighting chores.
