Olympic Arms AR-15 GI Question before purchasing

I did a search for previous posts like this one and most are a year old or older so I want to present it now.

I am about ready to purchase my first AR15 and as many of you have noticed in the past I don't exactly look for the most expensive stuff. I did some research and found the Olympic to be at a good price and found some good reviews as well.

I figured I would get GB's opinions before I lay down the money. I would lke to hear from current/previous owners and what they think about it. Dont need "Save your money and buy a Bushmaster/Armalite/Colt". My wife is going to stroke anyway, dont want to make it worse.

Also, does the price sound about right? From a guy I know here in town I can get a NIB Olympic Arms GI 223 16" A1 for 651.00. In the description it says capacity 10rds., is that just referring to the mag that comes with it or will it not take higher cap mags? Also, how interchangeable are the OA's with aftermarket AR15 stuff?

    My buddy just bought the same model 3 weeks ago and he LOVES IT!
    He got it from atlanticfirearms.com for $650. I'm thinking about geting one for my self[:D]

    The one I have works with any m-16 mag I've put in it.

    Olympic Arms in the past has not been a mil spec rifle. If this is not an issue than by all means go with Oly Arms. They are a good company. I like the Bushmaster line. Thats just me. [8D]

    My advice is still to save your money till you can afford something better. I bought a complete rifle and interchangeable upper not long ago and it was CRAP. As a matter of fact, it was purchased in the retail store in front of the factory. I hope the Olympic people are reading this too!

    Both upper recievers had an interior finish that was unspeakably crude. It looked like they simply ran a milling cutter down them as fast as they could go. The bolt carrier makes a grinding sound as it travels back and forth. Thats how bad it is. The upper was also cast so poorly and the barrel threads so out of line that the sights could'nt be brought to zero. It seems they have simply cranked up production to meet demand and quality has gone down the toilet.

    I own several AR type rifles and the Olympic is the worst. Better to buy a good used gun than a new one from those guys. Hate to pee in your cornflakes, but I would'nt be doing you a favor by giving the nod to Olympic.

    No complaints against the Olympic. I had one for over a year now and it will drive tacks at 200 yds.

    Two things, a milspec compatable rifle is very handy when trying to find compatable parts and such. Second, the bushmaster "Disapator" 16 inch barrel with the chrome lined bore is hands down the best midlength barrel in my opinion. It has sights set at the 20" lengths for superior sighting and a seperate gas block, at the 16", so that it cycles properly. I built my varmint rifle and then wanted a combat style upper, so I bought a disapator upper and have not regeted it.

    I like the Olympic AR-15. I had a Colt H-Bar with 1 in 7 twist barrel and was restricted to using heavy bullets. Traded for the OA and I really like it. Took it out West and popped a few prairie dogs with it.[:D]

    Olympic is a good brand. I have a mulit-caliber olympic lower. It shoots great with the dpms upper, in 223, and 7.62x39..I would never sell that lower..it is fantastic.
