480 Ruger 460 S&W 454 Casull etc.

I happen to like big bores....but not like some might think. I love the history of the 45/70 and I have a Gibbs Frontier and a Marlin lever gun to play around. Mr Vaqueros are in .44 mag but I shoot cowboy loads and I carry a 10mm CCW. All that said, I REALLY like the Ruger Alaskan!! But....is the 480 going to out of production because it was just a wish of Bill Ruger's? Is the 460 going to fit some niche? And the punishing 454 (yes, I know you can substitute 45LC) needed south of the coloniesnorthern border??
Does anyone have a great page of ballistics they can direct me to?

The Ruger Alsaskan is going to be much more popular in .454 than .480. As to the .460 XVR, I think it will do very well. It bumps the .454 out of second place, but you can shoot .454 or .45 Colt in the new .460 X-frame. I would bet it has room for moon-clipped .45 ACP as well. It is on my list for sure. 200 gr. semi-spitzer at 2300 FPS from a handgun?!?! wahoo!!! Also reportedly a pu$$ycat to shoot with it's gain-twist rifling and 5 lb. weight.

I handled the 460XVR at the S.H.O.T. Show and put it on my list if it gets on the approved list with CA DOJ.

i skimmed through the latest article in a mag about the 460, i just wish i could shoot a 200 gr bullet out of my BFR 45-70, i'm already shooting just over 1800 fps with a 300 gr seirra jhp...... 0
