.45/.40 cal. accuracy question...

It makes it easier to answer this question if one asks it differently.
"Is one caliber more consistent than the other?"

If the pieces are strapped in, and test firing shows that the .45 hits
in a tighter group than the .40, then, for those two pistols, on that
day, in that location the .45 would be more accurate than the .40.

This seems to be the conclusion that hundreds of competition shooters
over the years have drawn from their experience.

To be scientific, the size of the bullet and it's conformation, in relation to the charge contained within the casings, would have to be
in the same ratio. Other controls would have to be in place, and there might be some folks out there who have gone to this trouble,
but somehow I doubt it. Most smart folks learn from the experience of others instead of having to prove everything to themselves.
Therefore, most competitors use .45 caliber handguns, and improvements by manufacturers risking money servicing this segment of the market have been much more prevalent in .45 caliber. Strong evidence!
