Winchester sling and hooks

Found one of these originals and would like to know when they stopped selling them?PLEASE,,thanks

    Check for a thread under Rembrandt. He was looking for one or a replica not long ago and there was a thread with some information. Might help get you started and show you who has some info on these.

    Thanks He Dog but this sling is MUCH older than what he is looking for. The buckle on this sling has a patent date of 1897.In the MADIS book it shows one on an 1866 and another on an 1886 rifle. This one was also on the 54s and prewar 70s.It has hooks on the ends to slip into eyes screwed into the stock.Thanks for the info.modoc

    Hello modoc...

    I would suggest locating and looking through several different vintage Winchester catalogs. I own a modest collection of orignal catalogs, but mine all date from 1891 - 1925 (and the sling strap you pictured on Gunboards is listed in the 1925 catalog).

    It is difficult to find things as fast as you would like,but am prepared to keep trying.Also hard to find catalogs in the years yours are. Is it just me or are the accessories bringing more than the guns these days? Even the old cartridge boxes are into the hundreds of dollars.I guess when you have one each of your favorite guns you have to find things to fill in the gaps.Thanks for the kind help.modoc

    Yes, it is difficult to find those old catalogs, and no, it is not just you... the prices on those old (and desirable) accessories are getting to be out of sight. I routinely see Winchester catalogs listed on eBay that were printed in the 1960s - 1990s if you are interested in those.
