Removing/ Reversing Lock-Tite?

I had this question on her before, but forgot what the anwsers were, and my search feature does'nt work. Is there an easy way to remove lock-tited screws? Is that even a word? I've heard that you can put it in the freezer, and heat up a screw driver, and the combination of heat and cold will break the bond. Any other ways? I'm trying to get a mis-aligned scope mount off of an Enfield #4. Any tips?

    Thanks for the tip, should I apply the hat the the base/screw or to the screwdriver?

    I would use an electric soldering iron and heat it up where ever you can.[:)]

    Hello Bill,

    In most cases, the heat from a hand held hair dryer will be sufficient to break the bond. In my former line of work, we used many different grades of Loctite (each grade has a different bonding strength and corresponding heat level before it loses its bonding capability), and what we used was a heatgun (almost like a hand held blow dryer) to breakdown the Loctite. A hair dryer will not hurt the surrounding steel surfaces for the duration of time that you apply the hot air. However, be sure to reapply a bit of gunoil to that area.

    One thing that should be mentioned is that if/when you reapply loctite, is to make sure you have the right type and make sure that you don't let it make contact anywhere it shouldn't. Certain types can detroy finishes, plastic and can stain just about anything. And it tkaes a very small amout to get the job done.

    Yep,..soldering iron applied to the head of the screw for a minute. If they are still a bit tight,..then compress the threads. This can be done by putting the screwdriver in the slot,..and smacking that screwdriver several times on top, with a hammer,..then back the screws out. heat and thread compression work every time for my gunsmith,..and now it works for me too.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
