M-1 Garand Problems???
Ok charging handle is stuck in forward position and will not move back but an inch or so any ideas on troubleshooting this????[xx(]

Mark Christian's the 'Garand GURU.' But I'll try to help till he comes in and answers.
1. Has it been taken apart recently? If it hasn't, and was working right before, I don't know. Mark, where are you??
2. If you've taken it apart and this happened when you put it back together, you've put something back wrong. (I know, about the same thing happened to me)
If no. 2 is what happened, take it apart again, and going by the manual, make sure you get it back together right.
In my case, I'd put a part in wrong. (sorry, I don't know the part name) Everything went together, but the bolt wouldn't cycle. I took it apart, and carefully put it back together correctly.

Scroll down to the second pic. That's the part I'd installed wrong.
The part of the part that looks kinda like a hook is where I messed up. The 'hook' has to fit in the receiver where a small detent fits in the crook of the 'hook.'
Try that while we're both waiting for MC to read your post.

No such luck it was operating like a champ. Fired it today and shot 1 inch groups at approx 100 yards. Now the charing handle is stuck and I can only move it around 1 in back its like its binding on something. Where are you Mark???????[:D] 0 -
Assuming the chamber is empty, the first thing you should do is remove the trigger group, & then take the action out of the stock. (You can do this without the hammer being cocked.) Remove the recoil spring/guide & hold the action up at a 45 degree angle; under ordinary conditions, the op rod & bolt should slide back from gravity. If there is still a problem, look at the parts where James was directing you before: the op rod catch, & the other parts held in by the same pin. Be sure the follower arm is not bent. If the problem remains after these parts have been removed, then your problem has to be with the op rod or bolt; examine all surfaces & lugs carefully.

Not to be a nit picker, but the term op rod (operating rod) makes things
clearer.0
