Are New Llama .45 semi-auto's any good?
Would like to buy my daughter a moderately priced semi-auto for her birthday. The new Llama .45 semi-autos seem like an excellent deal at a little over $200.00. But I also know you usually get what you pay for and I have doubts about how good a gun I can get for that small amount of money.
Llama has been around for a long, long time and I have to believe it has to have at leaast a minimum amount of quality.
Anybody know?

My experience with Llama firearms has been that the quality is iffy at best. I don't think I've known anyone that ever purchased a Llama and was satisfied with it. The most common complaints I've heard about the Llama 1911 style autos is that they don't feed reliably and stovepipe frequently. 0 -
Just purchase your daugther a CZ-75 (which is a moderately priced pistol) and you won't have any worries about reliablity. You won't be showing her much love with a gift of a Llama!

Llama is synomonous with the word junk. Jam frequently and not well made. There is a reason they are $239.00. 0 -
don't buy one , JUNK, spend a little more and get a Ruger , CZ, or just about any thing else 0 -
Since it's your daughter, reliability is worth a few more dollars.The chance she will ever use it is probably slim but if she does, you want it to fire. Get her a Sig 2340 pro in sig 357. Very reliable and the women do much better with that round than a 45 in my experience. I've seen alot of back to back results from women shooting 45's and then the sig 357 at a local range(mostly law enforcement and prison guards). Almost all were better with the sig round.
Much better in most cases.

My llama is ok not junk not kimber. Buy her a taurus 9mm or 40 both good guns.

I myself have two daughters, and my first choice for them will be snub nosed, double action revolvers in stainless steel. I will pass them down some other stuff, too, but first choice for defense of any TYPICAL woman would be a double action revolver. Buy stainless so after is sits around for 15 or 20 years unremembered and unattended, it will be in working order when needed. And they won't forget how it works, as they might with an automatic. If they need to sleep with it, it's safe. If they need to drop it in their purse, it's safe. I alredy have one, a brand new stainless Taurus 9 shot .22 WMR and 400 round of ammo packed in the original box. Shiney and pretty, has a good safety in case there is ever a concern with my grandchildren being around, the .22 WMR from a snubbie will deliver as much energy as a .22 long rifle fired from a rifle. Loud enough to scare the pee out of anyone in front of it, they will think they are being shot at with something considerably more powerful. But the recoil is nothing the girls will come to fear. I'd suspect the 400 rounds of ammo might last them a lifetime, with plenty for the next generation. I have two daughters, already have one of these set back, plan on getting another pretty soon.

I can't speak to the new Llama pistols, but I have a 1931 Llama Extra. It was originally chambered in 9mm Largo but is otherwise virtually identical to a 1911. For plinking, I kinda wanted to see if I could swap a 9mm Luger 1911 barrel... and voila, fit perfectly! It feeds reliably even from the 9mm Largo mag, shoots fine, and doesn't stovepipe, at least not yet! It DOES sometimes fail to extract, but that's due to a worn extractor which I will have to replace one of these days. I'm just adding this wondering what others have for experience with OLDER Llamas?

I have 2 Llama Max-1 .45's in duo-tone and they are OK. Reliable with ball ammo, a few jams with HP- especially truncated cone style bullets. The fit and finish is mediocre, but for under $300 it's about what you'd expect. However, in the low-budget pistol category, I would strongly recommend the EAA/Tanfoglio witness over the Llama. They run $350-$400 and are rock solid guns.
It's easy to spot liberals-they are the ones who have no assets to protect and need every handout they can get. They have forbeyed themselves ascendence to a productive lifestyle.0 -

If not the witness check out the new Steyr-Mannlicher pistols. Nice and economical with Austrian quality. 0
