Dialing in a Ruger Single Six?
I have been having a rough time with my second single six. The first single six was ripped off, and I could not miss anything I shot at.The second single six , the one I own now, is giving me fits. I replaced the front and rear sights with Williams fire sights. That helped a bit.I have the rear sight screwed in all the way , and it still shots high, about four inches at 25 yards.I've adjusted to shooting like the military taught me to.I can now shoot one inch above the bulls eye.Now I or the gun is hitting the target to the right, sometimes I get a nice line from left to right about four inches long. I've changed ammo twice, same promblem.What gives? I've moved the rear sight to the left with no results. Well it works for a while then its back to the same old thing.Then I moved the rear sight to the right. It works for a while then back to the same old thing.I can't remember which way to move the rear sight to get it right anymore.Help!

I do not know if this will help or not but I recommend going back to ruger factory sights that would have come with the gun. Then the owners manual will tell you how to correct such problems and I'm sure the manufacturer will be glad to assist you. Such problems came up with my 1911 when I changed the 45acp barrel to 400 corbon, I noticed the rounds printed very low on the target and I would have to aim at the upper "8" ring to print in the "X" spot. Upon E-mailing corbon techinal staff they concluded that my 1911 had fornt/rear sights rated for the 230GR. ball ammo that the army would have used and that when I used a much lighter 160Gr. corbon load they said that is most likely the cause of my problem. So you might want to use loads recommended for the gun or get some sort of laser system for your gun which I do not think I have seen for the single six you have.

I would say 65gto is correct on bullet wt. If you pring to the right and shoot right handed, you are jerking the trigger. Many USMC coaching days has taught me this. Squeeze, don't pull. If you are not surprised by the shot you are jerking.

If you haven't already shoot from sand bags on a solid bench.
How did it shoot with the factory sights?
Always move the rear sight in the direction you want your shot to go. If shooting to the right move the sight left.

as for moving the sight...guns are like people, from the back we look the same, from the front, different. if u want the bullet to strike right, move the rear sight right and vise versa. Hope this helps 0 -

I reread my log book.I started dialing in the pistol using .22 lr Blazer ammo, at ten yards.I was four inches high of the bulls eye , but on target with the bulls eye. I shot a hundred rounds of unjacketed lead thru the barrel. At twentyfive yards I was eight iches above the bulls eye, but not drifting to the right or left.After twentyfive rounds of the same blazer ammo I switched to .22 mag hollow points by CCI. This pistol has never been able to handle hollow point ammo. I had full medal jacket ammo in the bag , but didn't use it. The next time I go to the range I'll have to write instructions in my log book and a check list. Does it make sense to use jacketed ammo on both the .22 long rifle and .22 mag ? Doses any of my rambling make sense to you all? Thanks for the posts guys.

one nifty little trick to get things on track....pistol ,revolver, etc with open sight is to use one of the slide in end of barrel lasers (cheap) to start out with...usually can tell rite away if sights & barrel share a common path or if you need a press or sledge?????? 0
