Colt SAA info. needed
Our neighbor, an old WWII vet passed away & I'm trying to help with some of his gun valves. The following is as best as I can describe: Colt SAA 44/40 Ser# 196,418. On the top of the brl.: Mfg. Co Hartf@ CT. U.S.A. Below cycl. on frame: Pat. Sept. 19, 1871, July 2. 72. Jan. 19.75 On the side of the brl.: Colt Frontier Six Shooter. The grips are hard rubber type with Eagles.
I've tried looking in the Blue Book but can't get it to work out. Any help in approximating a value would be greatly appreciated. It's in great shape with alot of patina. No dings nor knicks. The old guy told me he bought it 50 years age and paid $100 for it.

Hello the pistol was made year 1900 should be OK for smokeless powder Go to completed auctions and look for first Gen. colt saa I would WAG some where $1500 - ??? depended on condition. A factory letter thou costly is well worth the investment if gun is all orginal. 0 -
This gun's potential value is sufficiently high so that I would try to get the help of a qualified Colt appraiser. A couple of suggestions: 1) go to United Firearms Forums, click on the Colt forum and ask there. Lots of Colt guys who can help. 2)Google up Colt SAA appraisers and see what comes up.
