You can ship antique and modern long guns through USPS as long as there are no state and local laws prohibiting you, modern handguns must go secondary carrier overnight.

Bear in mind that the ATF has defined "antiue." Any muzzle loader, regardless of age, can ship to an individual according to Federal law, ref cartridge weapons must be made before 1902 if memory serves. Some are considered curio and relic and can ship to a lesser license.

I shipped a bulky grammar school desk using Fedex ground for less than what some charge for shipping on GB. Heavier than most guns and bigger according to their "chain." I am unsure of their policy regarding firearms.

Many guys just charge flat rate and will pick up the difference.

To qualify as an antique, the gun has to have been made before January 1, 1899.
