Remington 1100 questions
I brought home two used 1100's today and have a few questions that have me stumped:
Gun #1 is serial numbered L4736xxV. It has a vent ribbed barrel marked Imp Cyl. There aren't any date codes, just the letter J and the usual REP and P proof mark. There are also Patent numbers and the Remington Arms Co, and address. Any idea how old it is? Also, in the buttstock the bolt hole has been enlarged and there looks like some type of device has been added. The screw for tightening the stock comes almost to the buttplate. Is this some kind of recoil reducer?
Gun #2 is serial number 4743xxV The date codes are THREE letters
A L R, all clearly stamped. This one is a deer gun with recoil pad, rifle sights, and no rib of course. Can anyone tell me how to read these date codes? They don't match up with the Remington chart. Last, the stock is sightly loose; how do I remove the Remington marked recoil pad to get to the adjustment screw. There are no screws on the pad. Thanks for your help.

I recently bought a
Remington 1100 serial # L0985xxV
Left side of the Barrel there is a star and then 12GA. For 2 3/4 in. shells
Right side of Barrel close to the receiver there is an L in a triangle
REP in an oval
M
D
It has a 21" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights
When was it made? and what do the marks next to the receiver mean? Can you tell what choke is on it?

on gun #2, you can remove the pad as follows: get a phillips screw driver size#2use some form of lubricant, wax, vaseline, etc. center of the pad approx1/2"from the top and 3/4" from the bottom, push in on the pad and i'll bet you find screws. 0 -
Thanks for the tip. It worked beautifully. I got the pad off, the stock tightened, and the pad back on. I'm still wondering about the ages of the shotguns, though.
