480 ruger
Is the new .480 round in the Ruger Super Redhawks superior to the .44mag or .454 Cassull? I'm thinking of purchasing a new super redhawk for deer hunting at ranges of 75yds max. Any input would be appreciated.

hey guys, in the process of buying a hunting revolver. I'm looking at the Raging bull in 480 Ruger. I'm curious to how accurate this revolver is, and how far i could ethically take Wisconsin whitetails with it. Thanks 0 -
The raging bull has a pretty decent reputation as a hunting handgun, though I have no personal experience. The .480 is a potent round, running just behind the .50 AE and a little further back than the .454. Most factory loads produce around 1300 FPE< which is ~30% more than .44 mag. I would say that the round itself is capable of killing whitetail out to 200 yards if you can land the shot at that distance.

the recoil is considerably less than a 454, look into the Super Redhawks before settling on the taurus. they are a really good looking pistol.

I've shot one a few times, along with a .454. Recoil is a lot less than the .454. I don't know which is better in regards to penetration, however. If you are limiting your shots to 100 yards or so a .45LC or .44 Magnum might suit you better. The .480 will definately work for you though. 0 -
Have you considered the 460S&W Mag? It is also able to fire the .454 and the 45LC.
