Winchester 69a buttplates
Good morning, Winchester .22 experts!! Every buttplate I've looked at on a half dozen M69a's has a number 72 on it. Is that a Winchester piece number or were these B/P's supposed to be numbered the same as the rifle model number? Can you date a M69a by the B/P it wears?

Hello OleDuk...
The "72" is most likely a part/assembly number, and is not numbered the same as the Model number. No, unfortunately you can not date a Model 69A by the butt plate that it wears.
