are all parts kits legal in CA?

Are all parts kits legal in California. I have seen FAL parts kits for sale at gun shows (in San Francisco to boot), but not much else.
I know DSArms sells a California compliant FAL, and a couple of gunsmiths have told me they can build a compliant FAL from a parts kit and an Imbel receiver. What I haven't seen are G3 or AK parts kits in California. Are they legal to order from web sites and have shipped into California? Can California compliant guns be built with these parts kits?

    I've seen the non semi auto Aks at the gun shows, they make them a pump now.

    Are you by chance referring to the Yugo kits, I ordered one and was told by the importer that they are CA legal.

    I am assuming that since you asked if the Yugo kit was legal in CA, that you live in CA. What importer did you get the kit from? Do you know how to make a compliant gun, or are you just replacing parts on an existing gun? I am more interested in the G3 kits.

    Centerfire is importing the yugo kits, they aren't here yet but reserve orders are selling quickly. And I'm just buying this kit for spare parts for a existing gun, as Mark said you can't build one here in CA. unless you had a receiver before the ban and registered it. As for the G3 type, someone was knocking that question around at hkweaponsystems but really didn't get anywhere with it.

    You may be able to buy the kit in California because it may not be considered a rifle, when assembled the rifle is by idification considered a banned weapon. Example of this is hand grip, flash suppresor and or by name. The State had a manual with a picture of each type banned rifle and discription, in the back of the book it goes on to discribe each veration or option that make the rifle included in the ban. A Fal is not going to be legal in California unless it is a newer model with a welded mag or pump type action that will pass the current ban or you owned and rejestered the assult weapon with the stepulation that it cannot be sold or passed on to a family member, leaving only distruction or selling the rifle out of state.
