    Treadlok97,

If it is still in the bag sealed it would have some kind of preservative oil on it. If the bag is not sealed I would take it out and check it.
When I bought mine back in 1983 it had already been opened and checked by the shop from where I had bought it so I don't know if they seal them in plastic. Good luck.

We have the second amendment so that all the rest are secure....UNK>

if you are asking 'did rem. coat new rifles with heavey oil' to keep them from rusting? yes they did. if the rifle is still sealed in the original packaging and has been stored properly you don't have to do anything additional for long term storage.

This model was never sold commercially; it was made exclusively for the US Army. Several thousand were sold a few years ago through CMP for $260, most of them new. Some had the plastic bags opened so that the serial # could be read for inventory. Although they had been quite scarce, prices dropped dramatically when they were sold in quantity by CMP.

Top price is currently ~ $350. There are enough of them that it has little potential for appreciation. But, if you're just holding it for your children or grandchildren, keeping it in the sealed bag may be worthwhile.
